Blurring Boundaries of Authorship: Adriana Monsalve, Malcolm Peacock, Kimi Hanauer

A conversation on collective authorship with Malcolm Peacock, Adriana Monsalve, and Kimi Hanauer, at the Independent Art Book Fair LA.

In this program, Kimi Hanauer, Press Press’s founding editor, in conversation with artist, Malcolm Peacock, and co-founder of Homie House Press, Adriana Monsalve, will unpack the ways in which their practices dissolve conventions of single authorship by blurring the boundaries of personal and collective making processes and cultivating intentional public spaces. They will discuss various projects, including the conception and evolution of Press Press, Homie House Press, and Peacock's Let The Sun Set On You, through the lens of their relationship that evolved out of collaborative activities in Baltimore, Maryland.

Malcolm Peacock's art work centers and privileges Black lives. His own, his family's, his friends', and others'. In his art, Malcolm attempts to occupy different positions of vulnerability in order to remain open to the possibilities that may come from working in collaboration with others. At the core of the work is a desire to take, shape, make, and claim spaces of all kinds for the breadth of Black lives. To further explore how we have been, how we are, and how we can be in and with the world.

Homie House Press is a skeleton bones crew of femmes creating + publishing in the foto book medium. We are book makers + educators holding space for and with QTPOC artists + other marginalized groups. We are a playground where fotos become books, a safe space for secret stories and an open house for honest content. Find us migrating through the in between, the world wide web, and al otro lado del charco.
