Public Studio Announcements: Amelia Bande, Bilphena Yahwon, Rose Buttress

A series of readings and declarations to raise funds for social causes.

Press Press Public Studio Announcements is a series of gatherings featuring readings, declarations, announcements, and speeches at the Press Press studio. Every gathering serves to raise funds for specific social causes or organizations. This iteration featured readings, singing, and declarations by Amelia Bande, Bilphena Yawon, and Rose Buttress.

Amelia Bande is a writer working in performance, theater and film. Her plays Chueca and Partir y Renunciar were staged in Santiago, Chile. She is part of the Gel Film Series (2012- present) and she co-founded Publishing Puppies, a press for visual work, poetry and fiction (2011-present).

Rose Buttress is a seamstress and machinist living in Baltimore. Absolutely humorless and nightmarish in temperament, she spends all her time tailoring, mending holes, and manufacturing or replacing worn machine parts.

Bilphena Yahwon is a Baltimore based writer, researcher, organizer and womanist born in Liberia, West Africa. Yahwon is the owner and curator of goldwomyn.com, the author of ‘teaching gold-mah how to heal herself.’and the co-creator of For Black Girls Considering Womanism Because Feminism Is Not Enuf. Her work uses a womanist approach and centers women’s health and well being, transformative / restorative justice and intersectionality.
